Honey has been used for its medicinal purposes for 4000 years. It even seems mankind has been collecting the golden nectar for over 10,000 years.
The ancient Egyptians already knew in 1550 BC of the anti-bacterial properties of honey. They believed it to be nectar from the Gods. The Greeks, in particular Aristotle, also recognized its’ power of assisting the natural healing of infected wounds. Aristotle (384 – 322 BC) discussed the differences in honeys, referring to pale honey as ‘being good as a salve for sore eyes and wounds’. And of course the Bible refers to the Promised Land as “the land of milk and honey”. (Exodus 3:8)
Honey has also been mentioned in the 21st Century B.C. in Babylonian and Sumerian writings.
In Ancient Rome when Julius Caesar and Marcus Aurelius reigned, honey was used as a substitute for gold to pay taxes.
Honey is also special in the fact that it never goes bad. Some archaeologists reported that they found 4000 year old jars of honey in Egyptian tombs and that it still tasted great.
The unique chemical composition consisting of a low water content and a relatively high acidic level creates a low pH (3.2-4.5) environment; making it undesirable for bacteria or other micro-organisms to cultivate.

One of the best ways to digest Aristaeus Manuka Honey
In the situation of a sore throat or an onset of a cold
In case of a sore throat take a teaspoon with the Aristaeus Manuka honey and take small ‘bites’ of it over a period of like 10 minutes or so. This way the honey gets in touch with the throat longer. You can also dissolve the honey in tepid water and gargle with it.
Gargling with salty water really helped to prevent a sore throat from starting, however, I have noticed that gargling with Aristaeus Manuka honey and water works even better and is a lot more pleasant.
When you take Aristaeus Manuka honey for internal purposes like the relief of stomach ailments or acid reflux it is best to take it in the morning when your stomach is still empty e.g. with a cracker (or something alike). Do not drink for a while after to keep the honey as concentrated as possible.

Honey in Supermarkets – what to be aware of
It has been said that some honey in supermarkets contain a mix of sugar and other blends of honey, so sometimes you may not be buying “pure honey”, although it may be classed as “natural”. Also, it may also be worthy to note that a lot of the commercialized honey has been treated, heated and filtered, so that the texture appears to be “cleaner and smoother” and more appealing to the mass market.
When honey is heated, its sweet aroma, enzymes and yeast which are partially responsible for activating the minerals and vitamins within the body are in some sense destroyed, leaving not much of the real goodness that honey consists of unfortunately.
